Scientific context and aims

The year 2013 has been elected year of Mathematics for the Planet Earth. We propose the present conference in this context and in the framework of the CNRS-INDAM-UP GDRE project CONEDP in Control of PDE’s. The physical Planet Earth and the underlying control/inverse problems in geophysics, fluids and oceanology, climatology and the Planet Earth seen as a set of eco-systems to model and control will be the subject of this conference. Our purpose it to bring together specialists of control theory, inverse problems and data assimilation and specialists in climatology, oceanology, fluid mechanics, fluid-structure interactions and population dynamics. The conference scope is to give an overview of the main problems and recent advances in modelling in climatology, oceanology, river floods,  population dynamics and epidemiology, and the resulting control and inverse problems and applicative issues: control of fluids and fluid-structures (control of the swimming of micro-organisms, fishes, boats), control of degenerate parabolic PDE’s and applications in climatology (e.g. Budyko-Sellers model, floods forecasting and control), inverse problems in geophysics (identification of pollutants, diffusion of contaminants in the ground for instance). MCPIT2013 aims at making these different scientific communities interact to give birth to crossed collaborations issued form applications of control, inverse problems and data assimilation for Mathematics of Planet Earth.

Concerned public and participants

Researchers, academics, doctoral students and post-doctoral fellows of the GDR 3362 and the GDRE CONEDP and their partners, as well as of the disciplinary and interdisciplinary themes of this conference (climatology, oceanology, fluid mechanics, geophysics) are welcome to attend and participate.
